an informal survey over at linux haxor:

Ubuntu (54%, 150 Votes) Debian (12%, 34 Votes) Gentoo (8%, 21 Votes) Fedora (6%, 17 Votes) SUSE (6%, 17 Votes) Others (6%, 16 Votes) Arch (3%, 9 Votes) Mint (2%, 5 Votes) Slackware (2%, 5 Votes) Mandriva (1%, 2 Votes)

i know ubuntu is really gaining traction when i hear 2 older women talking at the register in front of me and one said she hated her windows machine and had her son put ubuntu on it and was gushing about it. and bill has been gushing too about it.

me? linux still hasn't made it onto my desktop, but debian has been my ace on the servers... todd went to ubuntu on his server last year only because of debians goofy release schedule. ubuntu desktop is very clean and easy to use though, i keep saying i'm gonna ditch windows but theres always just a couple programs i need/want. and os/x is so damn sexy. what's a poor geek to do who can't afford a mac just right now? yes i know about osx86, i apparently need a sata drive to get it going on my motherboard and i don't have one handy.... yet...

i was going to go on about vista SP1. but won't, i'm sure you've heard it all before. nutshell version: it's purdy and nothing really new was brought to the table. stick with XP really unless you got some beefy hardware.
