colbert report remix redux

january 23, 2009 6:34 pm | | comments (0)

just revisiting the remix of colbert report, it seems stephen was most unhappy and warned even more sternly about remixing the interview with lawrence lessig.

he warned definately not to "mix it with a pumpin k-hole groove" and not to use excerpts from his audiobook. and he went so far as to more rhythmically say not to remix it.

life in russia

january 22, 2009 11:32 pm | | comments (0)

a ton of AMAZING pictures by Aleksey Petrosian taken in russia. from whimsical slice-of-life to dramatic grandeur to dire tragedy to bleak depression, with some WTF thrown in for good measure. i'd love to have some hi-res versions of some of these.

take a few minutes and enjoy.

there's a pretty high res satellite photo of the inauguration over at popsci. 2 people said the crowd looks like ants lol.

any way you look at it, thats a shitload of people. i wonder how many stayed versus how many came just for the inauguration and left. DC had to be a madhouse in any event!

i hope the rumours of keanu reeves in cowboy bebop are false. i do however hope the rumours of a cowboy bebop live action movie are true.

remember: there is no spoon.

star wars as told by someone who supposedly never saw it. i call shenanigans because it was totally like reading the cliff notes. that hans and luke makin out scene is the best in the whole trilogy! it will be available on the soon to be released sooper deluxe new bluray release. it'll be out just after lucas has milked the dvd sales dry.

ob: gratuitous wilhelm screamage

Star Wars: Retold (by someone who hasn't seen it) from Joe Nicolosi on Vimeo.

in an interview with lawrence lessig stephen colbert pretty much dared people to remix the interview with "some great dance beats".... lol. ask and ye shall receive!

lessig is a huge proponent of copyright reform. its horribly out of whack with the times, and law is being dictated by corporate interests. may disney's lawyers burn in hell. and many record labels too.

here's ludachrists remix (who by the way put on a hell of a show awhile back in rochester)

also there's more at comedy central and elsewhere...

video game video!

january 11, 2009 5:10 pm | | comments (0)

this is an amazing video! it's tron + video games + rave. also they rock out with the keytar. lol. "abiura di me" by caparezza.

song is in italian so i don't know much of what he's singing about, but you can hear some video game names and manufacturers being dropped.

if anyone knows where to find a higher quality version, that'd be awesome!

on a side note, i like that youtube is going to widescreen format high def videos, but their handling of previously uploaded letterboxed videos is hideous. now those videos are completely boxed i guess would be the term? (letterboxed + pillar boxed). i never did understand why their player can't just play a video in whatever size/ratio it was submitted in.

well i made it back safely from the road trip the other day but haven't done a proper blog. it's been probably 6 years since i've driven route 66 so i'd figured some of the sights would no longer be there, but it seems most are still there, and many have been repaired or renovated.

i still have to sift through pictures, i took almost 700. i'm so glad film is dead. i still have rolls from the time i went like 10 years ago still undeveloped. yuck. and the first time when i went with sara we had i think 40 rolls between the 2 of us. thankfully our friend shellie worked at a one hour photo place at the mall and developed them for us for a case of miller.

some of the things i'd seen before, a few places i'd either not noticed before or were new. i tried to stick to the original route as much as possible, but detoured off much of it through arizona. and zig zagged through vegas and roswell on the way home, i meant to hit rachel nevada near area 51 out on the extraterrestrial highway but was thinking that was in new mexico so i missed it. i lopped off san francisco because it was way out of the way. i thought it was closer to LA and there didn't seem to be a good route to vegas from there. a time and money thing, but in the end i had the time, but not the money. meh.

i visited with some of the old roomies, sam in chicago, BJ & stef in tucson, and had i known would have seen tokyo joe in LA but just found out he lives there this morning. also chilled at noah's in phoenix, met his girl amber and roomie dennis. cool people. thanks to everyone for the crash space.

hope to sort though pictures and pick the good ones and get em posted somewhere. still haven't setup gallery or coppermine here yet.....

pros:

  • black betty is a good road trip car, lots of room, sunroof. i overpacked and took things i'd likely not need which i didn't but hey just in case ya know?
  • going solo was nice because i could do what i wanted when i wanted. (also has a con. below)
  • new camera with tripod took amazing dusk/night shots that weren't possible with any of my previous cameras. the mad zoom was nice too.
  • weather was beautiful once i got out in missouri
  • stopped and talked to some route 66 stalwarts with some great stories, as well as some of the locals here and there
  • had maps galore already, and guide books, though grabbed a hotel/restaurant guide that in the end i didn't really need.
  • GPS absolutely rules, would have been a major bitch w/o since there was no one to play navigator

cons:

  • going solo sucked because i had noone to chatter with. well i did have the phone but i am not a fan of driving and talking on em.
  • black betty has a huge blind spot on the drivers side.
  • ipod FM transmitters absolutely suck. even in near radio silence in the dead of new mexico, it would still fade in and out and had to scan for a better frequency. so much that i just listened to the actual sucky radio or the 10 cds i had in the car. which leads to....
  • radio sucks. bad. i must have heard that britney spears song every 20 minutes, and that one that is a weird mashup of the mai-ha mai-he youtube song and monotone electro-rap-crap. yeah heard it even more often than the britney song.

some observations:

  • if you have your cruise control set and i go to pass you, don't speed up you asshole.
  • the speed limits out west rule. most states are 70-75, some don't even have that nonsense of semi's drive a slower speed, so traffic flows much smoother.
  • las vegas and albuquerque are best seen at night because of all the neon signs. sadly i hit both during the day, i'll have to work on that for the next time.
  • phoenix feels like a police state with more traffic cameras than citizens.
  • ohio has more cops sitting around clocking drivers than anywhere in the USA, god help us when ohio starts getting traffic cameras
  • despite me knowing how the weather is out west in the winter, camping isn't such a great idea. the tent didn't come out of the trunk.
